Ecodesign is a european-wide programme to lower emissions for solid fuel heating appliances which includes Wood Burners, Pellet Burners and Water Heaters.
It is effective for independent water heaters manufactured after 1 January 2020 and is due to come into force for all direct room heating stoves manufactured after 1 January 2022.
The Ecodesign Regulations set new minimum seasonal efficiency standards and maximum emission requirements for solid fuel burning appliances. All appliances manufactured after that date must have been tested and verified as meeting the new limits before they can be sold and installed legally throughout the EU.
The emission limits are drastically reduced for Particulate Matter (PM), Organic Gaseous Compounds (OGC), Carbon Monoxide (CO) and Nitrogen Oxides (NOx).
Leading manufacturers are already manufacturing stoves which meet the Ecodesign requirements and are available now.
